Following are the topics on which Dr. Galves delivers entertaining and enlightening workshops and speeches:

TURNING NEGATIVE EMOTIONS INTO POSITIVES

All of those so-called “negative” emotions – anger, jealousy, anxiety, fear, guilt, sadness – can be very useful. The trick lies in being able to let them in, learn from them and use the insights to live more the way you want to live and love more the way you want to love.

HARNESSING YOUR DEMONS

We all have parts of ourselves which lie hidden, lurking below the level of conscious awareness – beliefs, assumptions, attitudes, habits which drive our behavior nevertheless. We also have parts of ourselves that we wish weren’t there – our “evil secrets”.  In this presentation audience members receive practical tips on how to become aware of, and more friendly with, those parts and how to use them for their benefit.

JUST SAY “YES” TO STRESS

The stress response is a wonderful tool which gives us the sharpness and energy we need to meet demands that we want to meet and address threats that we need to address. But, if we don’t use it to meet the demands or address the threats, it will kill us. In this presentation, audience members learn to use the energy in the stress response in ways that are helpful rather than harmful.

GETTING ALONG WITH OTHERS WITHOUT GIVING UP TOO MUCH OF YOURSELF

We all want to build and nurture good relationships with friends, relatives, co-workers, spouses, children, parents, etc. But we don’t want to do that at the expense of living our lives in unsatisfying, frustrating ways. Audience members learn to address problems with other people in ways that don’t jeopardize relationships and to manage their boundaries so that they don’t allow others to make them feel too bad or keep them from doing what they want to do.

THE KEYS TO SELF-HEALING

We know that our bodyminds have a wonderful ability to heal themselves. But we still don’t trust them enough. The increasing reliance on scientific medicine has caused us to lose faith in our bodyminds. The audience learns of the scientific evidence behind the power of the bodymind to heal itself and practical approaches to harnessing those healing powers.

DEALING WITH THE DIFFICULT DILEMMAS OF LIFE

We all face these dilemmas at one time or another – wanting to be in a long-term, committed love relationship complete with home, hearth, kids and beagles and also wanting the thrill and adventure of falling in love at least three or four times; wanting to carry the water for a team we believe in and also wanting to be The Man every once in a while; wanting to make a good living but not at the expense of our health or self-respect – problems that may not have any good answers but do have better ones. Audience members learn practical methods they can use to acknowledge the dilemmas and find the better answers by honoring both sides rather than one or the other.

CONTROLLING YOUR THOUGHTS SO THEY DON’T CONTROL YOU

These brains we have are truly marvelous. They enable us to understand the world we live in, solve problems, make decisions and plans. But they also can plague us with intrusive thoughts, automatic negative thoughts, thoughts which keep us from doing what we want to do.  This presentation teaches audience members that they are more than their thoughts; that they have the power to control their thoughts and use them to help rather than hurt.

A WHOLISTIC LOOK AT DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND BIPOLAR DISORDER

We’ve all heard about chemical imbalances and genetic dynamics. But deep down we know that depression and anxiety are more than just random biological dynamics. We know that they have to do with how we are living our lives, how we are reacting to situations, how we manage stress and how we deal with other people. In this presentation audience members learn of the scientific evidence that the symptoms which are used to diagnose these “disorders” are also how people are avoiding pain, protecting themselves, retreating from hardship, wrestling with important life issues and feeling better about themselves; and they learn what to do when they begin experiencing some of those symptoms.

HOW PSYCHOTHERAPY WORKS

We’ve seen psychotherapy depicted in the movies and on TV and we’ve read about it and talked about it. But few of us have actually received psychotherapy. In this presentation, audience members learn about what goes on in therapy sessions and how it helps people get better. The presentation includes lots of examples and anecdotes from personal experience
